Pavlicek comes from Prague, where the BBC filmed these dramas, and where he has a hugely successful career encompassing rock, soundtracks, symphonies and ballet. He offers no really memorable themes, but with just a hint of tongue-in-cheek and modern brashness, Pavlicek's Pimpernel is suitably adventurous, with a big orchestral sound augmented by full choir and the composer's own acoustic guitar work.
